(via Dixie (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
This is the playbill from the April 1859 premiere of “Dixie”: “Look away, look away, Dixeland…” But observe the last item: “Our American Cousin”. It was only one year old, and it had a long run ahead of it before its most famous performance, in April 1865; Lincoln was shot in Act III.
It’s the premiere of “Dixie” and “Our American Cousin” is on the bill! Oh irony!
